I recently did this illustration for Tampa Bay Watch, a non-profit stewardship program dedicated exclusively to the protection and restoration of the marine and wetland environments of the Tampa Bay estuary through scientific and educational programs. A friend and art school classmate Bill Castleman came up with the concept of using a pelican as a symbol for their program and art directed the illustration; they used the printed posters as a thank you to their contributors. Interestingly bird drawings were my first experience with art when I was very young and all these years later I’m still doing them.
